Penetration grade bitumen 60/70

The workhorse paving binder for highways in hot and temperate climates.

The grade

Why 60/70 is the grade that carries the traffic

Grade 60/70 is the most widely specified paving bitumen in hot and temperate climates. Its penetration range of 60–70 dmm at 25 °C sits between the harder 40/50 and the softer 85/100 — stiff enough to resist rutting under heavy axle loads, flexible enough to avoid thermal cracking.

It is the default binder for national highway programmes across the Indian subcontinent, South-East Asia and much of Africa, which is why it accounts for the large majority of the volume we move.
